Seamless Mix of Harmonies

From the archieves, a rare jugalbandi of Hindustani and Carnatic
If you are a classical music buff looking for great excitment, here is the stuff. Two maestros fusing twin Indian classical styles: Hindustani and Carnatic. The two strains merge into a single harmony.
They shared dais more than once both in India and abroad. Each time they brought out the mellifluous rendering many 'similar sounding' ranges of both generes. Back in 1991, their lives concert at Shivaji Park, Mumbai, was quite a defining one. Clad in flowing white both sat beamimg, with each adding, cutting, juxtaposing sounds. In the process they sang Kritis in ragas Darbari kanada/ Malkauns, Hindolam, Bhairavi.
It is not an exposition of mastery but losing oneself in a flow. Both made a silent dip in the vibrantly flowing sounds. No hitches. Everything fused into creating something unfamilliar yet very attractive. Dr Balamuralikrishna's baritone cues got very mellowed, and merged with the mild yet eloquent abandon of Pandit Joshi's. Later in 1997 they again came together at the Royal Festival Hall London -- another milestone.
